Charlotte Rooftop Wedding | Dawn and Hillard

Mr. and Mrs. Stevens’ reason for exchanging vows at the Harvey B. Gantt Center for African-American Arts and Culture was so they could have the beauty of a Charlotte rooftop wedding.  The Gantt Center not only is an ideal location for a sunset in the fall but it also it overlooks the amazing Bank of America Stadium.  The stadium is covers over 30 acres of land in uptown Charlotte, North Carolina.   Hurricane Matthew decided to change their plans but could not take away their joy!  Human Eye Photography was still able to capture some amazing images for the couple overlooking the stadium as well as a beautiful sunset.  When I spoke with Dawn during our pre-event consultation she made it known she really wanted an image overlooking the stadium. Despite hurricane Matthew and a lot of praise and worship on the way to the ceremony Human Eye Photography made it happen.

The day started at the Westin Charlotte at 601 S. College St.  Hillard and his groomsmen decided to exchange some gifts along with a few laughs before he got ready.  Once the groom was ready to greet his bride, he felt his soon to be wife deserved one last love letter from him as a single man. It was so heartfelt even I was teary eyed.  Hillard’s words revealed to me he is a true ROMANTIC!  While a letter to the love of his life was extraordinary for some, it was the norm for Hillard.  Hillard’s proposal to Dawn consisted of them overlooking the East River at the Water Club restaurant in New York City. Yet another beautiful, heartfelt example of Hillard’s romantic side and his LOVE for Dawn!

Dawn couldn’t wait to say Yes.  She was getting ready just down the hall from Hillard.  I guess she didn’t want him to get away after finding such a handsome, charismatic, intelligent and witty man to spend the rest of her life with.  I agree with her when she told me he has good nature towards humanity.  He was so accommodating which made the opportunity to shoot their Charlotte Rooftop wedding that much more memorable for HEP!

I traveled down to Dawn’s room to capture the rest of her details and some candid images of the bridesmaids.  They were all adorned in their monogrammed robes while waiting for Shi to finish Dawn’s makeup.  Dawn made sure Shi was there with her every step of the way.  When we traveled to the Harvey B. Gantt Center, Shi made sure Dawn was flawless!

The Charlotte rooftop wedding began on the 4th floor of the Gantt Center.  The burgundy and cream was very tastefully done.  What I loved the most as a photographer is Dawn listened to my suggestion to have an unplugged wedding.  A sign asked guests not to pull out cameras and mobile phones until after the first dance.  We occupied the 2nd floor for the cocktail hour, first dance, cake cutting and toast.  We used 4th floor for the ceremony and to dance the night away!
